C. Thomas Howard, PhD
Dr. Howard is the CEO and Chief Investment Officer of AthenaInvest and the architect of the unique methodology that underlies Athena’s patented behavioral investment approach. Building upon the Nobel Prize winning research of Daniel Kahneman, Tom is a pioneer in the application of behavioral finance to investment management and the author of the book, Behavioral Portfolio Management. Dr. Howard is a Professor Emeritus at the Reiman School of Finance, Daniels College of Business, University of Denver. As a well-known thought leader in Behavioral Finance, Tom speaks at national industry conferences and is often featured in major publications.
Enrique Fatas, PhD
Dr. Fatas is a Senior Fellow at the University of Pennsylvania and a Professor of Economics at Loughborough University (UK). Enrique is a behavioral scientist with interdisciplinary work on retirement decisions, asset markets and auctions, leadership, and models of bounded rationality. His research has been published in Psychological Science, the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, and Management Science. Enrique is also an Associate editor of two behavioral journals: Judgement and Decision Making and the Journal of Economic Psychology.
Clare Flynn Levy, CEO
Ms. Levy is Founder & CEO of Essentia Analytics, a fintech company that uses behavioural data analytics to help professional investors do more of what they're good at and less of what they're not. Prior to founding Essentia, Clare spent 10 years as a fund manager, both active equity (running over $1bn of pension funds for Deutsche Asset Management) and hedge (as Founder & CIO of Avocet Capital Management, a specialist tech fund manager). She ultimately “went native” into the software space as the President of Beauchamp Financial Technology, a market-leading provider of portfolio management systems to hedge funds, which was acquired by Linedata Services S.A.
Emanuel Derman, PhD
Dr. Derman is a professor at Columbia University, where he directs the university’s program in financial engineering. His latest book is The Volatility Smile and he is also the author of Models.Behaving.Badly: Why Confusing Illusion with Reality Can Lead to Disasters, On Wall Street and in Life, and My Life As A Quant. Born in South Africa, Dr. Derman has a PhD in theoretical physics from Columbia University and began his career developing programming languages at AT&T Bell Laboratories. From 1985 to 2002, he ran quantitative strategies research groups in fixed income, equities and risk management, and became a managing director at Goldman Sachs & Co. in 1997.
Jason A. Voss, CFA
Jason is the CEO of Active Investment Management (AIM) Consulting. Most recently, he was Director of Content for CFA Institute. Previously, he was the co-Portfolio Manager of the Davis Appreciation & Income Fund which during his tenure bested the S&P 500 by more than 40% and earned a Lipper #1 ranking. Jason is an author in 14 publications, including The Intuitive Investor and well over 1,000 articles on investing. Jason is also co-Founder of The Sarasota Institute and serves on several boards, including the Framework Panel of the International Integrated Reporting Council. Jason received his BA in Economics and an MBA in Finance from the University of Colorado.
Dr. Greg Filbeck, CFA, FRM, CAIA, CIPM, PRM
Dr. Filbeck holds the Samuel P. Black III Professor of Finance and Risk Management at Penn State Behrend and is the Director of the Black School of Business. Previously, he served as Senior Vice President of Kaplan Schweser from 1999 to 2006 where he was in charge of all content and curriculum. Professor Filbeck has authored or edited eleven books and published more than 100 refereed academic journal articles. Professor Filbeck received the outstanding teaching award among iMBA faculty in 2010 and 2012, the Penn State Behrend Regents award for Outstanding Researcher in 2011. He has a BS (engineering physics) from Murray State University; a MS in Applied Statistics from Penn State University; and a DBA (finance) from the University of Kentucky.
